I remember past discussions by dolly enthusiasts on some Blythe doll forums regarding the best time to find deals on 1972 Kenner Blythe dolls and other Blythe items. We would actually discuss a number of other Blythe topics in great detail, as well. Anyways back to the topic at hand, what time is a good time to find great deals on 1972 Blythes, we determined that the best time was during the Christmas holiday season. Why? well that's when most people are often buying gifts for others or people are too busy enjoying the holidays so often the vintage Blythe doll auctions usually go ignored by a lot more people! I took a look this morning via BigEyedBuys.com and discovered a lot of overpriced buy it now auctions but there were still 1972 Kenner Blythe auctions that started at lower prices. Anyways it wouldn't hurt to keep your eye open for that perfect holiday deal! I always buy the most perfect gifts for myself anyways so why shouldn't you :D haha! If you really have your heart set on a Blythe doll this year why not ask for cold hard cash this season. Also don't get discouraged with those really high buy it now auctions! You could always ask the seller to lower the price, the worse thing they could say is no. You could also start selling stuff you don't want or the other neat stuff you picked up on your search for Blythe dolls, that is not on the recall list, to sell on Craigslist, Kajiji, Ebay, etc..Well I hope you find this information handy and I would love to know if you do actually find a good deal if you buy a 72 Blythe doll :D Best of luck!

<3 Anna xo
BigeyedBuys.com

**Great news! A member of Bigeyedbuys.com Facebook just posted that she won a kenner days ago "with a low bid"! She also mentioned a great point, more people are be selling kenner blythe dolls, probably for some cash for Christmas gifts. More dolls for sale usually means less competition for bidders and at lower prices too. It's economics 101 the law of supply and demand.... I studied that in college :D Anyways, it's great to see that the Kenner Blythe Christmas Theory may actually work! It's the most wonderful time of the year!!!

BigEyedBuys.com New Facebook Group!

http://www.blogger.com/img/blank.gif
Hey Gang, I just created a Facebook group for BigEyedbuys.com and I would love it if you would all join and use the site too! BigEyedbuys.com Facebook Group http://www.facebook.com/groups/264599290244177/

I don't know why I never created one before but it's better late than never. Countless times I have seen many good Blythe people luck out only to have other Blythe people ruin their good fortune. Would you go to a flea market and tell a seller of a Kenner Blythe selling for a good price that they are off or would you just snatch it up! I say good for them to find a Kenner Blythe at a great price.

When I started searching for Kenners I asked Gina Garan for advice. She told me that "sometimes people don't know what they have". From that point on I let the sellers set the price and go from there.

Are the people that don't think that the ones that missed out and behaving like sore losers? What every happened to first come, first serve and being happy for people? The logic is when you do that then no one wins who actually cares about Blythe.

So let's say that one person lucks out and we all back off then the next time someone finds a great deal and then the person that was lucky before can step aside cause we get more winners that way. Does that make sense? What do you guys think?

<3 Anna xo
BigEyedbuys.com

I just wanted to add that I have seen some people preaching about telling an ignorant seller the true value of a Kenner to instead jump on a great deal themselves when they are given the opportunity. I find that those people are full of hot air to be honest. Those are the people that are usually posting crap about other collectors in their little trash can sites. How pathetic!

Info and Where To Buy Middie (Middle) Blythe Dolls

Hasbro Takara Blythe has done it again with their new in between sized Middie Blythe Doll I am just in love with them! They are so kawaii which means cute in Japanese! ^o^ I have yet to pick one up but it seems they go for quite a bit so I want to wait to choose the perfect one before I do.

They measure 20 cm which is just under 8 inches and are described as being not too big, not too small, but just right. They are the middle size between the approx. 4 inch petites and the approx. 12 inch full neo sized Takara dolls. Their eyes are once color that moves from left to right, their arms are bendable, their waste does not move and their knees do not bend. http://www.blogger.com/img/blank.gif

You can purchase Middie from online and offline dolly shops/sites like Junie Moon. I have yet to see them in actual physical shops here in Toronto. I think the only place left that sells Blythe Dolls here is at The Silver Snail on Queen Street, at the upstairs area. You probably won't find them at your local toy store or Wal-Mart, but never say never! Look at the Pet Shop Petite Blythe Dolls. I got some at my local ToysRUs and Zellers for great deals. You can also buy Middie Blythe Dolls via BigEyedBuys.com

I tend to favor dark haired and raven Blythe dolls so I will probably pick one with that style. It's so cool to think that all these dolls were inspired by only one 70s Kenner Blythe doll that only had 4 different hair colors, 4 wigs and 12 separate outfit sets. I almost forgot that 70s Japanese Blythe dolls that were named AiAi Chan and they had 5 different dolls - 2 brunettes, 2 red heads and a blond. Each had a different outfit. I don't believe there were wigs or outfit sets sold separately, though.

Blythe Dolls In The USA!

Hey Guys! So when storing or traveling with your dolls, please be sure that the doll is not touching other plastic (stands, shoes - especially Rosebuds, dolls arms & legs, etc.). Plastic from the face has even melted when the legs of another doll has touched, so please do not store together or any other part touching will melt the doll if stored, it is ideal not to put the dolls together and keep separate. I wouldn't even store the doll contacting the dolls own arms and/or legs to the face. Some even wrap their dolls in a piece of cotton.

Stains - Please be careful of denim, tights and black & red clothing. They are problematic so even if you do the best to treat them, the stains may still occur. If you have your doll wear something for a very long period of time, please check arms and legs periodically for staining. Be especially careful of stockings and tights.

Color Treat Blythe Doll Clothes Before Wear - If new Blythe doll clothes were not pre-treated, ask seller first, then pre-soak them in a mixture of a generous amount of vinegar and water.

How To Treat Blythe Doll Arm & Leg stains - If stains do occur, please don't worry because they usually do come out. It's understandable that it's upsetting so when it happens all your doll needs is a little spa time. Mr. Clean magic eraser, dish soap and/or pimple cream are the top 3 methods used. I would start with the dish soap first because most everyone has it in their homes and it's the easiest to obtain. Sunlight is what I recommend because of the lemon, my father even used it when he worked as a tailor because it is really effective in treating stains in clothing also.

Others have used pimple cream, most use Oxy 10 and others have used Neutrogena and sunlight dish soap. They claim that all they had to do was apply the acne cream to the stained area and then leave dolly in a window for a couple days. The stain may need a few more treatments so use your discretion because you may feel that you will need to re-apply the acne cream and put in the window again. Repeat this process until it is gone. Pimple creams use bensoylperoxid and salicyl acid to break down the stain so please be careful when using it because it may eat away at the plastic. I have used the Magic Eraser on stubborn Kenner dirt and it worked, I just made sure to rinse the area I treated really well after I used it. I would probably do the same for the other methods too in order to stop the chemicals from reacting with the plastic. Proof of this is after magic eraser or pimple treatment you may not see any results, but people have reported that after a couple weeks later the stain is gone because some of the chemical may have absorbed into the plastic, so make sure you rinse well so that not too much does.

Tips Getting boots on - Coat the leg in baby powder so your doll's legs will slip right into boots. Please be aware that some boots stain too and some shoes even melt so I suggest always putting some white cotton stockings on your dolls when they are wearing dark shoes or boots.

Trouble getting a sweater on - Difficult to get a sweaters past your dolls fingers? Try putting a sock over the hand while you put on trouble sleeves. I have also pinned up the dolls hair when putting on a sweater, top or dress on.

Gum or glue in Blythe Doll hair? - ICE! It even works great for human hair. Just treat the spot until goop is very cold then simply and carefully pick off.

Water on Takara Blythe Eyelashes - don't panic! Try to save those suckers by dabbing with a paper towel and leave it alone to dry.

Kenner Hair Falling Out - Do not fuss with it and leave it alone. If you want the original hair do not keep brushing and brushing it. A very sweet girl on a blythe forum noticed her KB's hair was fine and she kept touching it and it seemed that she made it worse by constantly touching it :( Don't feel bad because there was a happy ending! She actually gave the doll a mohair re-root and it looked fabulous. Bald Kenners are fixed up this way too with mohair or with saran. I've never seen a Kenner I didn't love!

<3 Anna
BigEyedbuyscom

Fall Fantasy, When Stunning Fantasy Hair Color Blythe Dolls Meet Vibrant Fall Colors.

I was hit with inspiration last week when I was looking out into my back yard to notice all the vibrant fall colors and immediately think of my fantasy hair color Blythe dolls.

The blue haired Blythe doll featured above is a Takara Blythe Asian Butterfly. There are two versions of AB, EBL and SBL. Both are out of production and a bit rare, though the EBL version is more so because the mold is no longer in existence. Other than the face mold difference and price (EBL is worth more and more rare), the only other thing is the 2 hair pom pom colors. They are both very cute. Pandora is wearing a Sugar Mag Blythe doll dress, I believe. You can't see her Blythe doll boots but they were purchased using BigEyedBuys.com

The bright red haired girl is a Rouge Noir Takara Blythe doll with an EBL face mold. No other face molds were made of this particular Takara Blythe. Dressed in a Takara Blythe doll stock Aztec BL Blythe top, Takara Step in Time shoe set orange boots and the skirt was purchased off of the Buy and Sell section on Plastic Paradise Forum, now Blythe Kingdom.

All fantasy hair color Blythe dolls are reproductions unless a vintage Kenner Blythe doll is wearing a wig or if the doll had a re-root. 72s that had a mohair re-root using fantasy hair colors are really stunning. It's so amazing what Blythe fans are capable of! You can catch a glimpse of these on Blythe Kingdom Forum or Flickr.com. Maybe just do a search if you want to save time.

I am looking forward the winter because I am going to take more pictures of my lovely back yard. I am very lucky to live in beautiful Toronto, Ontario where we have 4 seasons :) If you are from a place that doesn't might I suggest you come and visit us www.toronto.com has great information for people planning trips here. Maybe you can come to a local Blythe doll meet too because there are several enthusiasts :)

Thanks so much for your time!

<3 Anna xo
BigEyedBuys.com

S.O.S. Then more pms followed with the same question. They in fact were my pictures and I also noticed that this person listed that the doll was for sale! I was very concerned because I did not want anyone to get ripped off so I proceeded to post right on the stolen pics! I stated that the pics were mine, the doll featured was in my possession and was not for sale! SapphireSA / Sweetheart Accessories is what the person is going by. I also posted on Plastic Paradise forum because I think a lot of people frequent that site. I rarely go on lj or any other dolly forums anymore so I decided to post on Flickr & Plastic Paradise because I find a lot of Blythers are active there. I am so glad that I did that because a member that sent this person money via PayPal that day was able to report them right away. Paypal stated that they would in fact get their money back! Hopefully this will never happen again but if it does I will do the exact same thing but post a link on PP to my Blogspot. Below are the two links to the pictures that were stolen.

http://tinyurl.com/2dwk7v5

http://tinyurl.com/2ft98ye

Hugs,
Anna xo

Circle Contact Lense Craze To Look Like Lady Gaga & Blythe Dolls

I'm not sure if anyone has seen the news lately but even before then on the Plastic Paradise forum there was a thread regarding the latest circle contact trend.

Optometrists have deemed these contacts dangerous because they may scratch the cornea but a lot of the girls wearing them still don't care cause they feel that they really look cute wearing them.

I think they look neat but not enough to risk my eyes! Hopefully one day they will be able to release them with no risk to the wearer. All contacts have some risk if you do not ensure they are clean or wear them for too long. If you search the web you can find the specific risks. I actually found a great link from Health Canada that offers a lot of great info that people who are considering them should check out first: http://www.hc-sc.gc.ca/hl-vs/iyh-vsv/med/lenses-lentilles-eng.php

By the way, Lady Gaga had her eyes CGI'd (Computer-generated imagery) in the video Bad Romance but Blythe dolls eyes are all natural lol

Now I doubt that Gaga could have had her eyes look that large even with those circle contacts. I Googled "circle contact" in the image section and the girls wearing them their eyes did not look as big.

I actually need glasses to watch movies and tv because I'm near sited. I hope contact manufactures can make safe contacts with those big circle lenses soon.

Thanks for reading :D

<3 Anna xo
BigEyedBuys.com

Blythe Dolls Up North In Ontario, Canada

My Blythe dolls love to travel with me! Sending a doll away in the post costs but buying an already costomized doll would only cost me one way shipping and you can usually find great deals for already completed customs. I decided to buy a cheap blythe doll and go ahead and try it myself! It was for me the best choice because not only was it the most frugal, but it was the most fun!

I purchased a brand new blythe doll for only $65 US plus shipping. The reason was because the doll was so abundant and the face plate was still in mass production. You can also consider buying a used blythe doll or a nude blythe doll for even more savings. Some people even customize fake blythe dolls even before touching a real blythe doll.

I got a lot of tips online from blythe doll tutorials, websites, forums and other Blythe doll fans with customizing experience. If you don't like dolls with imperfections then I wouldn't recommend customizing your own doll because things might happen. If you couldn't stand having a custom with imperfections then buy an already custom doll or send it away to be customized.

I purchased some blythe doll eye chips and I already had some foil that I received from a friend when at a Toronto Blythe doll meet. I used the foil to put behind existing stock blythe doll chips by simply cutting the foil to the identical size of the chip and placed it behind.

I used the glue stick method to remove the original eye chips. You must use extreme caution when doing this because it involves using a flame. Children should always ask their parents before doing any customization to their dolls because you will need their assistance. What you will require is a glue stick, lighter, and tape. First tape your Blythe doll's eyelashes to protect them. I used painters tape because it wasn't as sticky and didn't pull out any of the Blythe dolls lashes. Next I heated the glue and when the top looked gooey I simply stuck it to the chip I wanted to foil or replace. You must wait a couple minutes or so before pulling the chip. It may take several tries to get it. Some people soak their Takara Blythe dolls in a bucket of warm soapy water overnight before attempting this but the dolls eyelashes will fall out.

Once you remove the chips you can simply pop in the new chips, but some people like to put a dab of glue on the back part tab to secure them. I never did but I think I should because the chips have fallen out in the back of Blythe's head. If the chips fall out into the head region you can unscrew the two screws in the back of the head and gently shake them out but be careful you don't upset the eye mechanism.

For the makeup I used Acrylic paint for the lips because with a little warm soapy water you can remove it easily if you mess up and it lasts. Some seal the lips to give it longer life. Some use Interior or exterior craft varnish in satin, gloss, or matte depending on the desired result. For that gooey look you can use water color pencil first and then seal if desired. For the eyeshadow and blush I used non toxic pastel chalk. I simply applied the chalk on some paper (great when blending colors or) and then use Q Tips and cotton balls to apply.

I am going to replace the Blythe doll pull ring next. There are tons of styles and colors to choose from. I really like the Eiffel Tower or a pink bobble for my Candy Custom Blythe.

For the hair I purchased a blythe doll wig because that mohair weave method is such a pain! I might buy a Blythe doll weft mohair piece and sew in the rest of the original scalp otherwise the hair may never get done. I'd rather watch paint peel than spend so much time hand weaving the hair. If you don't mind the time and effort then this YouTube Tutorial is really great.

The best tutorials I feel are on YouTube because you can most usually witness the actual Blythe customization in progress. Everything from lip carving to mohair dying.

Customizing is a lot of fun but I highly recommend that you start on a cheap fake or cheap used blythe doll first. Plus there are a lot of Blythe fans with tons of experience willing to help you. Plastic Paradise is a great Blythe doll forum that can help bridge you to some of these people.

Blythe Doll Spring Fling 2010

I just love spring time and one of my favorite pastimes is photographing my Blythe dolls outdoors in nature and while I'm traveling.

We were lucky to get a warm spell and I noticed some beautiful purple flowers in my garden. I knew right away which blythe doll I was going to feature and in which dress.

I selected an Ashton Drake Blythe doll Medieval Mood I named Sophia, wearing a vintage PJ Barbie flower dress. I couldn't have planned it better. The orange in the dress brought out the orange in the center of the flowers and the purple flower petals brought out the lovely purple flowers in the orange dress.

I'm not sure how I come up with these concepts but what helps is that I don't take it too seriously. I see some pics that have the perfect things but the end result is a bit too much like other people's pictures. Just have fun with it and even if the shots aren't unique at least you can put your own spin on it.

I'm not saying my pics are great but my sister in law did tell me that she felt my shots were better than the ones she saw in books and mags. I was extremely flattered and even though she may have just been being nice cause she's family it's still made me feel great and that's what it should all be about.

You can store your pics for free at Flickr.com but your are limited. If you do not want any restrictions then a paid pro account would be your best bet. Flickr is more than photo storage, it's also a social network and the Blythe community is strong on there and it's fun.

I started a thread on the Plastic Paradise forum called Blythe doll Spring Fling. Plastic Paradise is my most favorite Blythe forum so please feel free to join and add your Blythe spring pics too

I hope you enjoyed my blog and pictures. Some go straight for the vintage Blythe doll, others find them too expensive and stick with more affordable Takara reproduction. Fake Blythe dolls interest some collectors and they seem to purchase them mostly out of curiosity. I have 2 Fake Blythe dolls, both are Ashton Drake Blythe dolls. They are adorable but have a very strong smell of plastic, so I won't purchase anymore. I think that the CCE fakes are so cute, but I heard they are very flimsy. Whatever Blythe doll you purchase, you most likely will buy another. Collectors often refer to Blythe dolls as potato chips, because you can't have just one. On my BigEyedBuys.com website I feature a page sharing my tips on buying Blythe dolls. I think it's a good read and may help those that are starting out. I'm big on finding the best deals on any Blythe doll and Blythe items. I hope my information helps you and I would love to hear about it if it did :D Best of luck!

<3 Anna xo BigEyedBuys.com
Buy blythe doll

FYI

Blythebay.com is no more but BigEyedBuys.com is! Looks like it's a good time to buy!

I recall, when reading Ebay for Dummies, it stated not to put so many of your items on at the same time, because they will end at the same time and less people will compete for bids. More supply equals less demand, so it looks like the crazy prices may follow that, as well.

Experts have said that it's a buyers market so I wouldn't doubt that that also applies to buying a Blythe doll.

Many of us doll enthusiasts often wonder if spending so much on dolls is a wise investment. I look at it this way, heart value equals more to me than dollar value does.

I also budget myself so that I don't suffer from buyers remorse. Another great tip is to shop around and check shipping rates too. Another way to find reasonably priced dolls is when people sell dolls at your local dolly meets, so you don't even need to pay shipping at all. Selling off things to earn extra money for your dolls is another option to go guilt free when the prices do creep down. You never know if they will stay down for long, though, or if they will drop completely.

Remember, no one can predict the end value of things until it actually happens. Maybe all those Kenners will go for even more? It's like going to Vegas, Lady Luck never revels her hand until the game is over.

As long as you enjoy your collection, then who is to say that it's all about the money. If it was all about that then the stock market is more your game.

The Blythe community is another plus for collectors, meeting people from all over the world and sharing your thoughts, tips, photos and experiences with each other. Now money can't ever top that!

<3 Anna xo
Bigeyedbuys.com

Traveling With Your Blythe Dolls

I can think of nothing more entertaining than taking pictures of your lovely blythe dolls in some far away place and at a famous landmark. I have traveled a lot and have been very lucky with my luggage, however, I don't want to risk one of my lovelies any time soon! Also ensure that your bags are always near you, even if for a second you take your eyes off of them you may be robbed. I'm always very mindful of my luggage, carry-on, digital camera and purse. It happens, so don't feel bad if it does because it's only material objects. As long as you are okay, then that's what counts, but if you can prevent it, then that's at least half the battle.

<3 Anna xo
Bigeyedbuys.com
blythe doll

Blythe Doll Values

Depending on the type and condition of the Blythe doll in question, you may be looking at thousands, especially if it's a vintage not removed from box 1972 Kenner Blythe doll! I have seen those pristine NRFB vintage beauties go as high as $5,000+ US!

If you find a 1972 Kenner Blythe doll out of box and in good condition you could be looking at $800 - 1200 US. Like I said before, it all depends on the condition.

Even the Japanese reproduction Takara blythe dolls can fetch anywhere between $100 ~ 2000 US. Sold out dolls, BL Takaras and Limited edition CWC Takara Blyte dolls usually go for the most.

Typically out of box, damaged, used and nude dolls go for the least so if you are on a budget that may be a good start for you.

A great tip is to check completed Ebay auctions to give you an idea of what something is currently worth. If you are a compulsive shopper I recommend that you examine a few things before making an instant transaction. I do admit that sometimes you will find such an amazing deal that if you don't act fast you may miss out. I believe that 9 out of 10 times we are able to do that just by common sense alone. If you are not sure, then I would recommend that you look around a bit first.

There are many places that you can purchase Blythe from online shops, forums, buy and sell sections, Bigeyedbuys.com, etc. When you are searching always keep a few things in mind, check shipping rates because some sellers really over charge there and protect your payment! Sending a money order is very risky and I always use PayPal because they have a bit more protection. If you want more security a middle party escrow. I will write a separate blog with links to those and the FBI fraud reporting website. Mail fraud is a big no no and you should always report sellers that do not send you goods or refund your money!

Another tip is to never limit yourself to just one shop, forum or auction site. Always shop around! The only time I do not shop is if the seller or shop has negative reviews.

Buying Blythe dolls can be very expensive and I have developed a method that helps me maintain my budget. When I search for vintage blythe dolls off-line I often pick up really neat things that I can turn around and sell on Ebay. I call the money I make doing things I like FU money, because you can spend it frivolously! I don't feel guilty spending it either. The worst thing you can do is rack up charges on your credit card and then take years to pay. It's not fair to you to pay all that interest. The hardest thing for me about collecting Blythe dolls is the fact that they are so expensive and you can mostly buy them online. I think every fan should be fortunate enough to find them for cheaps at a thrift shop.

Finding blythe dolls off-line is very rare but it does happens. Where do you think all those dolls on Ebay come from! Estate sales are the way that the majority of the sellers find their vintage prizes! I remember going to one and I was floored at how many dolls there were. Floor to ceiling, but not one 1972 Kenner Blythe doll! Oh well it was still fun. It's always great to get out and about with the people you care about.

Now I also found some when I once again though outside the box! I would check my local classifieds, both off-line and online! I also placed ads. I found 5 vintage kenner blythe dolls that way and for amazing prices. Again, this is rare, but if you don't try then you won't know. I always advertised in free publications. Today you even have kajiji and craigslist too.

The best tip I can give you is that you try and not give up. You will be able to at least save up for your dolls by earning money on the side for them. Also, some people just treat themselves!

Anna
http://bigeyedbuys.com
